Barisal, Oct 13 (V7N) — A fire broke out on Sunday morning in the medicine ward of Barisal Sherebangla Medical College (Shebachim) Hospital, causing panic among patients but resulting in no injuries.

The fire originated on the ground floor of the medicine ward, where cotton and gauze stored in the storeroom caught fire. The incident caused significant alarm among the patients and staff, but everyone was safely evacuated.

Deputy Director of Fire Services, Mizanur Rahman, reported that nine firefighting units responded to the blaze and worked for two hours to bring it under control. An electrical board switch was found burnt at the scene.

Firefighters suspect that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, though a detailed investigation is ongoing to confirm the exact cause.

Hospital authorities are now assessing the damage and ensuring the safety of the premises to prevent any further incidents.
