Kalapara, Oct 24 (V7N)- Cyclone Dana, currently situated 475 kilometers from Payra Seaport, has brought heavy overnight rains to Kalapara, Patuakhali, causing disruptions to daily life, particularly for low-income individuals such as day laborers, masons, and construction workers. Many have been unable to leave their homes due to the adverse weather, and traffic on the roads has been significantly reduced.
According to the latest report from the Meteorological Department, the upazila has recorded 56 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, ending at 9 AM on Thursday. The sky remains overcast, with increasing air pressure, and water levels in the surrounding rivers have risen. In addition, the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata is experiencing extremely rough conditions, with large waves crashing onto the shore.
Local authorities have warned that stormy winds may hit the subtropical areas under the influence of Cyclone Dana. As a precaution, all sea ports in the country, including Payra, have been instructed to display local warning signal number 3. Fishing trawlers have been advised to remain in safe locations until further notice.
To deal with the potential impact of the cyclone, the district administration has mobilized CPP volunteers and medical teams. A total of 829 cyclone shelters have been prepared, and emergency measures are in place.
Akhter Jahan, an official from the Patuakhali Meteorological Office, informed the media that further rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the region. "We anticipate that the water level in the rivers may rise further, and there is a possibility of increased rainfall," Jahan stated.
With the weather conditions set to worsen, residents are urged to remain cautious and follow official updates closely.
