Tangail, Oct 27, V7N- In an innovative effort to encourage people to grow vegetables year-round, Tangail-based volunteer organizations Foundation for Youth and Foundation for Children launched a project selling various vegetable seeds for just 10 Taka. On Saturday, volunteers from the organizations sold vegetable seeds in a slum area of Tangail District Headquarters to inspire people to engage in home gardening.

The initiative offered around 15 types of vegetable seeds, including gourd, pumpkin, beans, tomatoes, chilies, radishes, bitter gourd, yardlong beans, cucumbers, red spinach, regular spinach, and vine spinach. Buyers were able to purchase seeds for three different types of vegetables for only 10 Taka.

Arifa Zaman, a coordinator of the organizations, shared that the aim was to provide vegetable seeds not only to low-income families but also to people of all social classes. She added that they are also selling hybrid seeds so those without land can grow vegetables in small spaces, like balconies or rooftops.

Customer Swarna Begum said that she plans to grow vegetables in a small space near her house, and thus bought seeds for three types of vegetables for 10 Taka.

Zahid Hossain, a student, noted that with the current high prices of vegetables, it is challenging for middle-class families to buy vegetables regularly. He mentioned that buying seeds at an affordable price will allow him to start growing his own vegetables at home.

Coordinator Rakibul Hasan Raihan stated that the initiative will continue in various villages of Tangail. The aim is to empower people to grow their own vegetables to fulfill their dietary needs and share with neighbors.

Muid Hasan Torit, the president of the organization and the initiator of this project, mentioned that due to high vegetable prices, many people cannot afford to buy them. By subsidizing each seed packet, the organization sold seeds to around 200 buyers, helping people gain access to affordable vegetables and encouraging them to starthome gardening.
