Kuakata, Nov 15 (V7N) — Kuakata beach, known for its scenic beauty and cultural significance, came alive on the full moon day of Ras Purnima with thousands of devotees performing traditional rituals, including the holy Ganga bath and the Ras Mela. As the morning fog lifted and the first rays of the sun bathed the shore in a soft red glow, the long stretch of Kuakata beach echoed with the chants and hymns of worshippers, both young and old.

Devotees participated in a wide range of religious practices, believing that the rituals would wash away the sins of the year and bring success and happiness in the coming year. The beach became a vibrant scene of devotion as women sang traditional songs while some dipped into the sea to cleanse themselves, others shaved their heads in penance, and many offered various items like rice, flowers, and oil to the waters in reverence.

Ranjit Das, a pilgrim who arrived on Thursday, shared his experience, "I came here to perform rituals for my family. This morning, I took a bath in the holy water and poured it over my wife and son. It's a tradition that brings peace." Many like him performed similar rituals, reaffirming their faith and making vows for personal or familial blessings.

Amal Biswas, a devotee, explained his reason for shaving his head: "It has been a year since my father passed away. I vowed to do this for his memory, and today, on Ras Purnima, I fulfilled that vow."

The religious fervor wasn't limited to just the rituals; the Ras Mela also drew attention with vibrant activities. Stalls selling religious items, food, and souvenirs dotted the beach area, adding to the bustling atmosphere. The festival, steeped in tradition for centuries, has grown into a universal celebration, drawing people from diverse religious backgrounds who came to witness or partake in the festivities.

In addition to the spiritual celebrations, local authorities ensured the safety and convenience of the devotees. The administration arranged for drinking water, sanitation facilities, and emergency health services, while the entire area was secured with CCTV cameras.

Tourist Police Superintendent Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad assured visitors of their safety, stating that patrols had been strengthened at key locations such as the zero point of the beach, temples, and main roads. Around 500 law enforcement personnel, including the police, Bangladesh Army, and tourist police, were deployed to maintain peace and order during the festival.

Upazila Executive Officer Md. Rabiul Islam acknowledged the cultural importance of the Ras Purnima Puja and Ganga bath, stating that the district administration had created a security cordon to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

The Ras Mela and Ganga bath at Kuakata continue to be a major cultural event, bringing together devotees, tourists, and local communities in a harmonious display of faith and celebration.
