Rangamati, NOV 29 (V7N)- Two separate road accidents in the hill district of Rangamati on Friday morning resulted in the death of a student and injuries to at least 32 others. The accidents occurred in Bangalhalia, Rajsthali Upazila, and at Manikchhari near the entrance to Rangamati town.
First Accident: Collision Between Tourist Bus and CNG Auto-Rickshaw
A fatal collision between a tourist bus from Khulna University and a passenger CNG auto-rickshaw took place on the Chandraghona-Bangalhalia road near the police camp at Dak Bungalow Para in Bangalhalia Union.
The accident claimed the life of Paimay Marma, a student who was a passenger in the auto-rickshaw. She hailed from Ghoaiynga Para in Balaghata, Bandarban Sadar Upazila, and was identified through an ID card found in her bag. Paimay was a student at the Open University’s study center at Rangunia College in Chattogram.
Five others, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were injured in the crash. Their identities remain unknown as they were taken to different hospitals for treatment. The accident occurred around 11:45 AM, according to Muhammad Shahjahan Kamal, Officer-in-Charge of Chandraghona Police Station.
Second Accident: Overturned Bus in Manikchhari
In another incident, a bus carrying 40 passengers from Rangunia to attend a religious event at Rajban Vihara overturned at Munshi Abdur Rauf Chattar in Manikchhari. At least 27 passengers were injured.
Rescue operations were conducted by local police and the fire service, who transported the injured to Rangamati General Hospital.
Hospital Update
Dr. Shawkat Akbar Khan, RMO of Rangamati General Hospital, reported that 27 injured passengers were brought to the hospital. Among them, 11 were admitted for further treatment, and 16 received outpatient care.
Pushpita Barua, one of the injured, is in critical condition and has been referred to Chattogram for advanced medical treatment.
As of 3 PM, many of the admitted patients had been discharged after treatment, while some continued to receive medical care.
Local residents expressed concern over the rising frequency of road accidents in the area, urging stricter traffic regulations and improved road conditions to prevent further tragedies.
