Khulna, Nov 30 (V7N)- November is about to end. December has arrived. Winter season is underway. Fresh vegetables in the market. All kinds of vegetables have been arranged. Although there is a supply of vegetables in the shops of the city, the vegetable market is increasing day by day. In a span of a month, the prices of daily necessities including vegetables are becoming unbearable. No vegetable is available for less than seventy taka. Even though the duty on onion and potato has been reduced, it has not had any effect on the Khulna market. The National Consumer Rights Protection Department has conducted several campaigns, but it is not coming under control in any way. Low-income buyers are out of reach. Low and middle-income people are in trouble due to the increase in prices.
Yesterday, Wednesday and today, Thursday, in various markets in the city, new potatoes were sold at 100 taka per kilogram, old potatoes at 75 taka, local onions at 130 taka, Indian onions at 100 taka, local garlic at 260 taka, Chinese garlic at 240 taka, cauliflower at 70 to 75 taka, cabbage at 50 taka, turnip at 65 to 70 taka, radish at 50 taka, winter beans at 80 taka, barbati beans at 100 taka, green peppers at 120 taka, brinjal at 70 to 75 taka, tomatoes at 160 taka, shrimp at 60 taka, ucche at 100 taka, sweet pumpkin at 50 taka, papaya at 50 taka, red and green leafy vegetables at 40 to 45 taka.
However, a month ago, old potatoes were sold at 75 taka per kilogram, local onions at 130 taka, Indian onions at 100 taka, local garlic at 240 taka, Chinese garlic at 220 taka, cauliflower at 80 taka, cabbage at 50 taka, turnip at 65 taka, radish at 45 taka, winter beans at 80 taka, barbati beans at 100 taka, green chillies at 240 taka, brinjal at 60 taka, tomato at 180 taka, jhinghe at 50 taka, uche at 80 taka, sweet pumpkin at 50 taka, red cabbage and ghikanchan at 40 taka in various markets of the city.
Meanwhile, considering the market price and supply of potatoes and onions in the country, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced the duty on potato imports to 15 percent and removed the 3 percent regulatory duty after reviewing the overall situation in the wake of the recommendations of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission.
The price of edible soybean oil is not decreasing in any way. Bottled fresh, arrow, Bashundhara soybeans (5 liters) are being sold in the market at a price of 875 taka. Which is being sold at a price of 175 taka per liter. Loose soybeans are being sold at a high price. In the retail market, it is being sold at a price of 180 taka per liter, and super oil is being sold at a price of 179 taka.
Md. Zahirul Islam, who came to the KCC Super Market on Approach Road in the city, said that the market prices are not under control. Despite raids in the market, the prices are not coming down. Unscrupulous and syndicate traders are increasing the prices of all types of vegetables at will in the hope of more profit and are stealing from the pockets of consumers.
On the other hand, Md. Hafizur Rahman, a buyer who came to the KCC Sandhya Bazar on Sher-e-Bangla Road at the Moylapota intersection in the city, said that it is winter season now. There is a lot of supply of vegetables in the market. Not all types of vegetables are available. However, traders are continuing their business without reducing the prices of vegetables for more profit. He said that more mobile courts should be run in the market. Then maybe the price will come down a lot.
