Panchagarh, Dec 06 (V7N) Known as the "Daughter of the Himalayas," Panchagarh is experiencing a biting winter as the cold strengthens its grip in Agrahayan, even before the onset of Paush. While daytime temperatures hover between 27-28°C, nighttime temperatures have dropped significantly, with the lowest recorded at 12.3°C on Friday morning, according to the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory.

Despite the harsh morning chill, the region's hardworking population, including daily laborers, stone workers, tea workers, and farmers, continues to brave the elements.

  • Morning Struggles: Workers like Kamal and Nasir reported numbness in their hands and feet due to the intense cold but headed to work at sunrise for the sake of their families.
  • Evening Chill: Locals noted that cold winds begin after sunset, intensifying through the night. Warm clothing, blankets, and quilts are essential to fend off the cold during these hours.

The contrasting temperatures between day and night have led to a surge in cold-related illnesses. Common complaints include fever, colds, coughs, pneumonia, and diarrhea.

  • Healthcare Facilities Overwhelmed: Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital and other district health centers are witnessing a rise in patient numbers, especially children and the elderly.
  • Medical Response: Doctors are providing treatment alongside health awareness advice to help locals cope with the winter season.

Jitendra Nath, officer-in-charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, noted a slight increase in temperature compared to previous days. "Today at 9 am, the temperature was recorded at 12.3°C," he said, hinting at a mild respite.

Despite the challenges of winter, Panchagarh’s resilient communities are adapting to the harsh conditions while balancing their livelihoods. With continued health support and precautions, the district is navigating the season with strength and unity.
