Chuadanga, Dec 15 (V7N) — Chuadanga town has been grappling with a persistent cold wave, with temperatures remaining in single digits for the past three days. On Sunday, the district recorded the country's lowest temperature at 9.3 degrees Celsius, following an even colder 8.7 degrees Celsius the day before.
The biting cold is most severe from evening to morning, with minimal warmth during the day despite brief sunlight. A relentless cold wind adds to the harsh conditions.
Daily wage earners and labourers have ventured out in search of work, braving the freezing temperatures. Many returned empty-handed after long waits, while others, despite finding work, were forced to abandon tasks due to the severe cold.
Rickshaw pullers, van drivers, and easy bike operators have also been struggling to find passengers. The harsh weather has severely impacted the livelihoods of low-income groups, while the homeless and displaced people are enduring the brunt of the cold, spending nights under the open sky without adequate winter clothing or blankets.
Jaminur Rahman, in charge of the Chuadanga Meteorological Office, confirmed that the cold wave continues but predicted a slight improvement in temperatures over the next couple of days, followed by another likely dip.
Local authorities and charitable organisations are urged to step in to provide warm clothing and blankets to those in need, as the region battles the biting winter.
