Khulna, Dec 16 (V7N)- Victory Day-2024 was celebrated with due dignity in Khulna today (Monday). On this occasion, wreaths were laid at the Gallamari Shaheed Memorial at sunrise. In the morning, the day was auspicious with 31 gun salutes at the Metropolitan Police Lines in Boyra, Khulna. With the sunrise, the national flag was hoisted on government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings and institutions and the main roads and road islands of the city were decorated with the national flag.

Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad District and Metropolitan Unit, Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar, KCC Administrator, Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, Police Commissioner Md. Zulfikar Ali Haider, Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam, representatives of government and non-government departments, representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement, educational institutions, leaders of various political parties and representatives of socio-cultural organizations paid tribute by placing wreaths at the Gallamari Shaheed Memorial.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar officially hoisted the national flag at the Khulna District Stadium at 8:30 am. Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, Police Commissioner Md. Zulfikar Ali Haider, Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam, Police Superintendent TM Mosharraf Hossain and other brave freedom fighters were present at the time. Later, a day-long victory fair was inaugurated and a discussion meeting, cultural programs and prize distribution were held there.  A children's drawing competition, discussion meeting and prize distribution were held at the city hall under the initiative of Khulna City Corporation

At 11:30 am, a reception was held in honor of the brave freedom fighters and families of martyrs and families of war-wounded freedom fighters at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium. Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar was the chief guest at the reception. Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the program, and special guests included Range DIG Md. Rezaul Haque, Police Commissioner Md. Zulfikar Ali Haider, Police Superintendent TM Mosharraf Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sheikh Shafiqul Islam, wartime commander brave freedom fighter S. M. Babar Ali, convener of the Muktijoddha Sangsad District Unit Md. Abu Jafar, convener of the Metropolitan Unit brave freedom fighter Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Begum Nur Nahar, mother of martyr Shakib Raihan in the July-August Uprising.  At that time, the family members of the brave freedom fighters, war-wounded freedom fighters and deceased freedom fighters were present.

Special food was served on the occasion of the day in hospitals, jails, orphanages, children's homes. Special prayers were held in the mosques of the city at Badzoor and special prayers were held in temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship, seeking peace and progress of the country. Naval ships were kept open for public viewing at BIWTA Rocket Ghat from 2 pm till sunset. Rails, steamers, launches and ships were decorated at the railway station, BIWTA Ghat and Launch Ghat.
