Rangamati, Jan 02 (V7N) — An armed terrorist was killed during a special operation conducted by joint forces in the Kichingchhara area of Ward No. 1, Sadar Union, Longadu Upazila, early Thursday morning. Locals suspect the deceased was a member of the hill regional armed terrorist group UPDF (Prosit), but police have yet to confirm the identity.

During the operation, security forces recovered an M-4 rifle, 12 mobile phones, three fake army uniforms, two NID cards, and various documents and items. However, the identity of the deceased remains unknown.

The operation, which started at around 5 a.m., was led by Lieutenant Colonel Himel Mia, commander of the 3 Bir Longdu Zone. According to security sources, the raid was conducted based on intelligence. A gunfight ensued, during which approximately 30 rounds of fire were exchanged. The terrorist was killed on the spot, while others managed to flee.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahmudul Hasan of Baghaichhari and Longadu Circle stated that police arrived at the scene following the incident and recovered the body. Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Wahid of Langadu Police Station confirmed that the body has been sent to Rangamati General Hospital for an autopsy.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine the identity of the deceased and the group's affiliations.
