Chittagong, Jan 03 (V7N) — Chittagong's first elevated expressway has officially begun toll collection, marking a new chapter in the city’s transport infrastructure. Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman inaugurated the toll collection operation at the Patenga end of the expressway this morning.

Named after Wasim Akram, the first martyr of Chittagong in the July Uprising, the elevated expressway was inaugurated 13 months ago. Following the ceremony, the expressway was opened for vehicular traffic, with the first tolls paid by the convoy of the advisor, the city mayor, and CDA officials.

Excitement filled the air as passengers and drivers used the expressway under the new system for the first time. Many expressed enthusiasm for the convenience it provides, while others voiced concerns over the toll fees, urging authorities to review the charges.

The Chittagong Elevated Expressway is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the city, connecting key areas and providing a faster route for commuters and goods transport.
