Noakhali, Jan 12, (V7N) – A massive fire broke out late Saturday night at Horcas Market in Maijdee town, leaving the bustling marketplace in ruins. The fire, which started around 11:45 PM, prompted a large-scale emergency response as five firefighting units worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control.

Rapid Spread of Fire

Local residents first noticed sparks in the market, which rapidly escalated into a blazing inferno. Witnesses reported seeing flames engulfing the market within moments, spreading from one shop to another.

Abdul Ali, a resident of the area, said, "We saw sparks in the market, and within minutes, the fire spread everywhere. The entire market was engulfed in flames."

Shops and Businesses Destroyed

While an official count is yet to be made, locals and first responders estimate that over 30 to 35 shops may have been completely destroyed. Business owners were seen rushing to salvage what they could, but the intensity of the flames made it nearly impossible.

"Many shop owners have lost everything. It's heartbreaking to see their years of hard work reduced to ashes," said a local shopkeeper.

Firefighting Efforts Intensify

The Maijdee Fire Service Station was the first to respond, with five units arriving shortly after the fire was reported. According to Senti Yasin Molla, a senior official from the station, efforts to control the fire are ongoing, with additional firefighting units being dispatched to the scene.

"The fire is severe, and our teams are working tirelessly. More resources are on the way, and we will share further updates as we gather more details," said Molla.

Authorities and Emergency Services Respond

Police and army personnel have been deployed to the site to assist with evacuation efforts and ensure public safety. They are also working to prevent onlookers from crowding the area, which could hinder firefighting operations.

As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation will be launched once the situation is under control.

Impact on the Community

The Horcas Market is a central hub for Maijdee’s economy, housing a variety of shops, including clothing, electronics, and household goods. The fire has left shop owners and employees devastated, many of whom rely solely on their businesses for their livelihoods.

Local authorities have promised a thorough investigation and support for those affected. Relief measures are expected to be announced once the extent of the damage is fully assessed.
