Rajapur, Jan 17 (V7N) - The body of Mosa Marufa Akhter Surma (35) was discovered hanging from a betel nut tree in Algi village of Ward No. 5 under Rajapur Sadar Union, Jhalakathi, early Friday morning. A veil was found tied around her neck.
Surma was the daughter of Md. Amjad Hawlader of the same village. Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ismail Hossain confirmed the recovery of the body.
According to police and family sources, Surma had been struggling with mental health issues following a head injury sustained three years ago. Her family mentioned that she often exhibited abnormal behavior and was closely monitored. On Thursday night, after having dinner, Surma went to bed with her mother and sister. However, when her family members noticed her absence during the night, they began searching for her and eventually found her hanging from a betel nut tree in their garden.
The family suspects that Surma took her own life due to ongoing mental health struggles.
OC Md. Ismail Hossain stated that the police recovered the body and sent it to Jhalakathi Morgue for autopsy. An investigation is underway.
