Jhalokathi, Jan 20, (V7N) - The body of a newborn baby has been recovered from the Sugandha River in Nalchhiti, Jhalokathi.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, around 1 PM, the police from Nalchhiti Thana found the baby’s body along the riverbank in the Barikoran area of Kulkathi Union.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchhiti Thana, Abdus Salam, confirmed the discovery.

Local residents reported seeing the body near the river and informed the police. Upon their arrival, the authorities recovered the newborn's body. The baby is estimated to be around five days old. There was a similar case recently, where a mother threw her five-day-old baby into the Kirtankhola River from the Dapdapia Bridge, which may be related to this discovery.

OC Abdus Salam stated that the baby’s body has been sent for autopsy, and efforts are underway to identify the child. Legal action will be taken once the investigation report is received.

Earlier, on January 15, 2025, a mother named Aishi Akter threw her five-day-old baby into the Kirtankhola River from the Dapdapia Bridge. Aishi is an assistant teacher at the Haybatpur Toukathi Government Primary School in Nalchhiti. Initially, the incident remained hidden, but on January 16, it became widely known, creating a stir in the community.

Later, Aishi was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) Hospital in Barisal due to physical illness and depression. However, her name was secretly registered as Rabeya in the hospital records. Her husband, Sohel Ahmed, is the station officer at the Mothbaria Fire Station in Pirojpur.
