Tangail, Mar 20 (V7N)– Students of Tangail Polytechnic Institute have blocked the Dhaka-Tangail Jamuna Bridge highway in a demonstration against a recent High Court verdict regarding craft instructors.

The students initiated their protest around 11 a.m. on Thursday, marching from the Polytechnic Institute to the Ravna Bypass area of the highway. The blockade resulted in the stoppage of all vehicular traffic on both sides of the highway.

The students are protesting a High Court ruling issued on Tuesday, which mandates that 30 percent of junior instructor positions be allocated for promotion of craft instructors. They argue that these positions are intended for diploma engineers, and the ruling significantly reduces job opportunities for them.

"Several students of the Polytechnic Institute said that last Tuesday, the High Court ruled in favor of promoting craft instructors by giving them 30 percent of the posts. As a result, they will be promoted and become junior instructors. And this post is for diploma engineers. The number of job vacancies for those who pass the diploma has decreased by 30 percent," a student representative stated.

The students have expressed strong condemnation and protest against the High Court's decision. They have also announced a boycott of all classes and ongoing mid-term exams at Tangail Polytechnic Institute until further notice, demanding a reversal of the verdict.

"The students of Tangail Polytechnic Institute cannot accept such a verdict of the High Court. We strongly condemn and protest this," a student protester said.
