Khagrachari Apr 19 (V7N) - Students under the banner of Khagrachari Shashak Chhatra Samaj (Khagrachari Conscious Students' Society) faced police barricades to protest the rape of a hill girl. On Saturday (April 19) afternoon, the hill students faced police barricades when they took out a protest march to protest the rape from adjacent to Khagrachari Young Buddhist Monastery in the city's Pankhaiya Para road.

Later, the students ignored the police barricades and staged a protest rally on the street. During the rally, the students said that on April 15, at midnight, at Amrong (Bardlu Para) in Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati, A young woman (20) was gang-raped by a Bengali boy, Md. Fahim (25), in the area. The next morning, before people could come to know about the incident, the rapists fled the scene. The victim is currently undergoing treatment in Rangamati. Later, when the incident came to light, the victim's family filed a GD with Kaukhali Police Station. But even after 3 days of the incident, it was alleged that the administration was not taking any steps to arrest the culprits. And Hill women in the Chittagong Hill Tracts are suffering from lack of security. Hill women and children are constantly being raped and tortured. So far, none of the rape and torture incidents that have occurred in the Chittagong Hill Tracts have been properly investigated, rather the incidents have been covered up. Due to which, heinous incidents like rape are increasing in the hills.

Students strongly condemned and protested the gang rape of a young Marma woman by Bengalis in Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati Hill District and the police's obstruction of the protest.

The protest rally was led by Ukyanu Marma, General Secretary of the Marma Students Council, and was addressed by ordinary students Kavita Chakma, Champa Marma, and Ningthoi Marma.
