Barguna, Apr 20 (V7N)- Residents of Barguna formed a human chain today, Sunday, April 20th, to press their demand for the establishment of a 1000-bed China-Bangladesh Friendship General Hospital in their district. Following the demonstration, a memorandum was submitted to the Barguna Deputy Commissioner and the Health Advisor, outlining the urgent need for such a medical facility in the area.
The human chain, organized by the Barguna Development Forum, took place in front of the Barguna District Commissioner's office. The Barguna Press Club, along with other journalist organizations and various social groups, extended their full support to the initiative. The demonstration saw participation from Barguna's politicians, lawyers, journalist leaders, various professionals, and people from all walks of life.
The welcome address was moderated by Abu Jafar, the General Secretary of the Barguna Press Club, and the welcome speech was delivered by Advocate Rezbul Kabir, the President of the Barguna Development Forum. Advocate Sohel Hafiz, the President of the Barguna Press Club, served as the main speaker. Other notable speakers included Alhaj Abul Kalam Azad, former treasurer of the district BNP; Taposh Mahmud, general secretary of the Barguna district branch of the Bangladesh Mofusal Journalist Forum (BMSF); and Asma Akhter, acting president of the district Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
Advocate Sohel Hafiz highlighted Barguna's potential while lamenting its severe developmental neglect, particularly in healthcare. He emphasized the lack of facilities compared to neighboring districts and stressed the importance of establishing the China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in Barguna, given the opportunity presented.
Advocate Rezbul Kabir of the Barguna District Development Forum described the people of Barguna as a "neglected community" predominantly engaged in agriculture and deprived of development for the past 17 years. He pointed out the dire state of health services in the district, where even basic medical supplies are often unavailable in hospitals. He appealed to the Prime Minister and the Health Advisor to allocate one of the three proposed China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospitals to Barguna, warning of further movements if their demand is not met.
Barguna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shafiul Alam expressed his solidarity with the demonstrators and assured them that the submitted memorandum for the hospital's establishment would be forwarded to the government with due importance.
