Chandpur, Jun 06 (V7N) — Eid-ul-Adha is being celebrated today in about 40 villages across various upazilas of Chandpur district in accordance with Saudi Arabia’s calendar. The first Eid congregation was held at 8:00 am at Sadra Eidgah in Hajiganj upazila, led by Maulana Zakaria Al Madani.
A second congregation took place at 8:30 am at the Sadra Fazil Madrasa ground, followed by several other congregations in villages such as Sameshpur and Balakhal. Following the prayers, special supplications were offered for peace and well-being in the Muslim world.
This longstanding tradition traces back to 1928, when Maulana Mohammad Ishaq Chowdhury, then principal of Ramchandrapur Madrasa, initiated the practice of observing Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Eid-ul-Adha in alignment with Saudi Arabia. Since then, this religious practice has continued in approximately 40 villages in the district, reflecting a deep-rooted spiritual connection with the Islamic holy sites.
