Cox’s Bazar, Jan 27 (V7N)- Two Bangladeshi teenagers were injured after coming under gunfire allegedly by members of the Arakan Army along the Naf River border in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:30 am near the Jimangkhali–Kanjor Para border area of Hoikyang Union while the teenagers were fishing on the Naf River.
The injured were identified as Md. Sohel (16), son of Sheikh Kamal, and Md. Abdullah (17), son of Md. Yunus—both residents of Kanjor Para in Hoikyang Union.
According to Inspector-in-Charge of Hoikyang Police Outpost Khokon Chandra Rudra, the two teenagers had gone fishing near the border when members of the Myanmar-based rebel group Arakan Army opened fire at them. Both sustained gunshot injuries to different parts of their bodies, including the head, hands and legs.
Following the incident, local people rescued the injured teenagers and took them to MSF Hospital in Kutupalong, Ukhia, for treatment.
This is not the first such incident in the area. Earlier, on January 13, an 11-year-old child named Sumaiya Huzaifa was seriously injured in gunfire allegedly fired by the Arakan Army near the Techi Bridge border area in Hoikyang Union of Teknaf.
The repeated incidents have raised serious concern among local residents living along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, who fear for their safety amid ongoing instability across the border.
