PABNA, March 5, (V7N) — A special court in Pabna has sentenced a drug dealer to life imprisonment for the possession and sale of heroin. The verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon by Pabna Special and District Judge Abu Saleh Md. Salauddin Khan.

The convict, Md. Sujan Hossain, is the son of Md. Mansur Ali, residing in Laskarpur Dakshinpara village under Pabna Sadar Upazila. In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed a fine of 10,000 BDT, with an additional six months of imprisonment in default of payment.
Case Background

The case dates back to July 24, 2022, when the District Detective Branch (DB) Police acted on a confidential tip-off. A raid conducted in the Kabirpur area of Pabna Sadar led to the arrest of Sujan, who was found in possession of 180 small packets (puria) of heroin, weighing approximately 65 grams.

Following the arrest:

A regular case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Pabna Sadar Police Station, with DB Police SI Tanvir acting as the plaintiff.

The accused was subsequently released on bail during the trial process.

Fugitive Status: Sujan Hossain failed to appear for the final stages of the trial and is currently absconding.

Legal Proceedings

Public Prosecutor Advocate Rajiur Rahman Ranju represented the state, while Advocate Kamrul Hasan served as the defense counsel. After examining a lengthy list of testimonies and evidence, the judge found the allegations against the accused to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court has issued a permanent arrest warrant for Sujan Hossain, and his sentence will commence from the day of his arrest or surrender. Local authorities have been directed to take necessary steps to apprehend the convict to ensure the execution of the court's judgment.
