MONGLA, Mar 12, (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested Osman Gani (38), an active member of the notorious Karim Sharif Bahini in the Sundarbans, and recovered hidden weapons and ammunition based on his confession.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Coast Guard Media Officer, said secret information indicated that members of the Karim Sharif gang were staying in the Murti Canal area adjacent to the Shela River. Acting on this intelligence, the Mongla Coast Guard conducted a raid at 6 am Thursday, arresting Osman Gani from the area.
Following interrogation, a search was conducted in the forest where a single‑barreled gun, 16 rounds of live ammunition, and 5 rounds of blank ammunition were recovered after being dug out from the ground.
Osman Gani, a resident of Ashashuni police station in Satkhira district, had long been cooperating with Karim Sharif forces by committing robberies and supplying weapons and ammunition.
Officials confirmed that legal action against the arrested bandit and the seized evidence is underway.
Lieutenant Commander Sujan added: “We want to tell the bandits that the Coast Guard’s operations will continue to keep the Sundarbans free of bandits.”
