RAJSHAHI, Mar 12, (V7N) – Traditional Rajshahi silk clothing has seen a sharp rise in demand across the country ahead of Eid‑ul‑Fitr, with showrooms in the city crowded daily from morning to night.
Buyers are flocking to purchase attractively designed sarees, three‑pieces, and Punjabis, leading to a significant increase in sales. Traders reported that demand has multiplied several times compared to regular periods, with new designs and colors drawing strong interest.
Women’s first choice remains silk sarees, while three‑piece sets are also popular for their elegance and comfort. Men are increasingly opting for silk Punjabis as Eid attire. Artisans in Rajshahi’s silk village are working tirelessly to meet the surge in demand, filling showrooms with skillfully crafted garments.
Customer reactions to pricing have been mixed. One buyer, Shafiq from Baro Rasta Mor, said he refrained from purchasing after finding prices high. Another buyer, Habibur Rahman, noted: “Rajshahi Silk has a different tradition. Compared to that, the price didn’t seem too high. I bought a good quality Punjabi for Eid.”
Sapura Silk Manager Saidur Rahman explained that prices have risen slightly due to increased costs of imported silk yarn from China. Sarees are currently priced between Tk 3,000 and Tk 55,000, Punjabis between Tk 5,000 and Tk 25,000, and three‑pieces between Tk 6,000 and Tk 32,000. He added that many showrooms are offering special Eid discounts.
Sources said there are about 10 large silk showrooms in Rajshahi city, selling silk clothing worth crores of taka daily during the festive season, creating a vibrant atmosphere among both buyers and sellers.
