Seven individuals affiliated with the militant organization Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), including the president of the Ruma upazila Chhatra League unit, have been remanded to jail by a Bandarban court. The charges against them stem from recent bank robberies and arms looting incidents at the Sonali Bank branch in the upazila.

The arrested individuals are identified as Chhatra League president Bhan Nun Noam (33), Lal Nun Noam (68), Lal David Bom (42), Chomliyan Bom (56), Lal Pek Liyan (32), Lal Min Bom (50) from Munlaipara, and Bhan Biyak Bom (23) from Laimipara in the upazila.

Judge A S M Emran of the chief judicial magistrate court of Bandarban issued the order for their detention.

Their apprehension occurred during a joint forces operation conducted in Ruma upazila on Monday afternoon, following which they were presented before the court with heightened security measures on Tuesday.

Priyon Palit, sub-inspector of Bandarban court police, confirmed the arrest.

Furthermore, the Chhatra League president has been expelled from the organization due to his involvement in terrorist activities, contravening the organization's constitution and discipline. An expulsion order, signed by Bandarban district unit president Pulu and general secretary Saddam Hossain Manik, was issued on Monday night.

The expelled leader has faced allegations of disseminating information to various armed terrorist factions in the upazila, engaging in extortion, and intimidating civilians.

The separatist group attempted to loot Tk1.5 crore from the vault of Bandarban's Ruma upazila branch of Sonali Bank on April 2 but was unsuccessful. Subsequently, robberies were carried out at Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank branches in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban on the following day.

The area witnessed visits from the Home Minister, senior officials from the Home Ministry, security forces, and administrative authorities in response to the incidents.

To date, nine cases have been filed with Ruma and Thanchi police stations regarding the aforementioned incidents.
