A devastating accident occurred on Wednesday in Baghaichhari, Rangamati, claiming the lives of at least nine individuals and leaving five others critically injured. The incident occurred when a truck veered off the 90-degree area of the Sajek Udaipur border road and plunged into a ditch around 5 p.m.

The identities of the deceased workers remain unknown at this time, while the injured were promptly rescued and transported to the Dighinala Health Complex in Khagrachari with assistance from the Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The truck, carrying a total of 17 workers, met with the tragic accident during their journey.

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akter confirmed the details of the accident, stating that six workers lost their lives immediately upon falling into a mountain ditch while returning from work. Additionally, eight workers sustained injuries, three of whom later succumbed to their injuries at hospitals.

According to Baghaichhari Circle Officer and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Awal Chowdhury, the truck lost control on the way back from work along the border road, resulting in its descent into a 100-foot-deep ditch. Local authorities responded promptly upon receiving reports of the accident.

The victims were engaged in road construction work along the Udaipur border, as stated by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by workers in hazardous work environments.
