"In a triumphant move for the villagers of Krishnapur in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi, the local administration has liberated three khas ponds, marking the end of a 16-year encroachment saga. Under the directive of Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ayesha Siddika, the encroachment of Nishana Poo on the border was cleared, and the ponds were officially reopened to the public on Tuesday afternoon.

These ponds, once utilized for the development of the village mosque, fell into the hands of Tofazzal Hossain, who claimed ownership through a lease. Despite efforts by the mosque committee to reclaim them through legal means, Tofazzal's hold remained unyielding for over a decade and a half. However, after a court ruling barred the upazila administration from granting further leases, the government intervened to reclaim the ponds for public use.

UNO Ayesha Siddika emphasized that these ponds were not part of the three Khas Khatians and thus ineligible for lease, as per court orders. Following legal guidance, the ponds were released from private ownership and reinstated under government control for the benefit of the villagers.

The liberation ceremony saw the presence of officials including Upazila Project Implementation Officer Engineer Tariqul Islam and Naib Iqbal Kasem Sumon from the Kesarhat Land Office, alongside jubilant villagers. This landmark decision marks a significant victory for the community, ending years of dispute and restoring public access to vital resources."
