The fierce cyclone 'Remal,' generated in the Bay of Bengal, crossed the coastal area during the night of May 26. As a result, the district administration has provided information regarding the extensive damage caused by the cyclone and the ongoing relief efforts.
 
On Monday (May 27), the district administration conveyed this information through a notice.
 
Additionally, in Cox's Bazar district, 638 shelters were prepared. Currently, 31 shelters are accommodating 9,787 people. The displaced individuals are being provided with cooked meals, dry rations, and purified water.
 
Medical services are being provided to the sheltered individuals through 91 medical teams.
 
In Maheshkhali Upazila, Abu Kalam, son of Abul Foyez, aged 75, was injured in the Maheshkhali Kutubjum Union's Ghatibanga Demvani Para area after being hit by a tree branch. He is currently undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
 
In Cox's Bazar Municipality Ward 1 and Charpada area of Maheshkhali Municipality, the breach in the embankment has caused seawater to enter, leading to inundation and waterlogging in the locality.
 
To provide immediate humanitarian assistance to the affected individuals, 63 metric tons of rice have been allocated by the respective Upazila Executive Officer for distribution.
 
Moreover, 153 makeshift houses have been partially damaged.
 
Efforts are underway to initiate the rehabilitation process for the families affected by the cyclone, as announced by the District Magistrate, Mohammad Shahin Imran. He expressed gratitude to all concerned, including district and upazila officials, volunteers, and political leaders, for their concerted efforts in mitigating the damage caused by the cyclone.
 
To ensure immediate response and coordination in the wake of the cyclone 'Remal,' an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee was held on the evening of May 25. Similar meetings of all upazila, municipality, and union disaster management committees were held on the same date, starting at 8 p.m., as informed by the district administration.
 
The District Magistrate's Office and all Upazila Executive Officer offices have opened control rooms, which are operational 24 hours a day.
