Kuakata June 13,(V7N)- An awareness meeting on illegal and unregulated fishing in the Bay of Bengal was held on Thursday at 10 AM in the Caritas Office auditorium in Mombipara, Kuakata.
 
Local trawler owners, fishermen, skippers, and members of the Blue-Guard participated in the meeting. The international research organization WorldFish and EcoFish-2 organized the event to ensure a sustainable blue economy in the sea. The meeting was presided over by Md. Nur Hossain Talukder, President of the Musullabad Fish Conservation Group.
 
Speakers at the event included Md. Ashikur Rahman, Marine Fisheries Officer of the Kalapara Fisheries Department, Md. Bakhtiar Rahman, Assistant Researcher of WorldFish, EcoFish-2, fishermen Abu Saleh, Md. Al Amin, Md. Khalilur Rahman, and skipper Md. Khalil, among others.
 
The speakers highlighted that illegal fishing activities in the sea are threatening the aquatic environment and fish resources. They called for sustainable fishery resource management to address these issues.
 
The event was conducted by TMSS Field Facilitator Abul Bashar.
