The flood situation in Kurigram district has escalated, leaving 150,000 people stranded due to the rising water levels in major rivers. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif reported that the Brahmaputra River was flowing significantly above its danger levels at various points, with similar critical conditions observed in the Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers. The flooding has affected 84,000 people across 42 unions in eight upazilas, including Phulbari, Nageshwar, and Kurigram Sadar.
Academic activities in 37 government primary schools have been suspended due to the floods, impacting a total of 146 schools. Relief efforts include the establishment of 404 shelter centers, with 3,124 people currently taking refuge in 26 of them. The local administration has distributed 291 tons of rice, cash aid, and dry food packets to the flood victims.
The district has seen 6,615 hectares of land submerged, and 83 medical teams have been deployed to assist those affected. Many residents have sought shelter in centers or boats as their homes are inundated.
