Police have arrested Sohag Mia, who threatened to kill Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, MP for Habiganj-4.

Akhtar Hossain, Superintendent of Police of Habiganj, disclosed this information during a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

Sohag Mia, 32, from Mobarakpur in Kulaura Upazila, Moulvibazar, was arrested at a hotel in Sylhet by a joint team from Chunarughat Police Station, the Detective Branch, and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit. The arrest followed a general diary filed by Barrister Sumon after receiving an anonymous threat.

Sohag Mia admitted to making the threat with false information to extort money. After Barrister Sumon addressed the threat in a Facebook live video, protests erupted in his constituency. Fearing repercussions, Sohag fled from Dhaka to Chattogram, then Sylhet, where he was eventually arrested.

Superintendent Hossain described Sohag Mia as a fraudster and online gambler, with existing fraud cases against him. In response to the threat, district police assigned a bodyguard to Barrister Sumon.
