Barguna, Aug 03 (V7N) – In Bamna, Barguna, serious accusations have surfaced against Bamna Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tushar Kumar Mondal, SI Debashish Howlader, and local Awami League Vice President Altaf Hossain Howlader. They are accused of filing false charges against individuals who did not accept a local arbitration decision.

Reports reveal that Bamna Police have charged 13 individuals, along with an additional 20-25 unnamed people, under the Special Powers Act for allegedly gathering in a secret meeting with intent to commit sabotage. Among the accused are a 10-month pregnant mentally disabled woman and her farmer husband.

Case records show that the 8th accused on the list is Md. Saddam Hossain (31), a farmer from Lakshmipur village in Bookabuniya Union, and the 11th accused is his 9-month pregnant mentally disabled wife, Sonia Afrin (25).

Since the case was filed, Saddam Hossain and Sonia Afrin have been on the run. Saddam claims that a long-standing land dispute with two local women, Farida Begum (40) and Duliya Begum (42), led to the current charges. He alleges that Awami League leader Altaf Hossain Howlader initially mediated the dispute in favor of Farida and Duliya, but the ruling was rejected.

A second arbitration involving local union council chairman Saidur Rahman Sabuj and other respected figures did not include Altaf Hossain Howlader, and Farida and Duliya did not accept this ruling either. Saddam also noted that Duliya Begum had previously worked as a domestic worker for a former police superintendent in Barguna, which led to police officers Tushar Kumar Mondal and Debashish Howlader supporting Farida and Duliya. Saddam accuses Altaf Hossain Howlader of conspiring to frame him and his 10-month pregnant mentally disabled wife due to their refusal to accept his arbitration decision. He and his wife are now hiding due to these allegations.

Local residents confirm that Saddam Hossain is a farmer and his wife is mentally disabled and 10 months pregnant. They have no political affiliations, and their involvement in the case appears to be a result of a fabricated plot.

Bamna Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Tushar Kumar Mondal defended the charges, stating that on Tuesday (July 23) at around 5 PM, Jamaat activists were gathering in Amatli village, Sadar Union, with plans to incite unrest. When the police arrived, the activists fled, but two individuals, Saimun and Jafar, were arrested. The remaining suspects escaped. Saddam Hossain and Sonia Afrin were also present at the meeting, and their signatures were found on the seized attendance register, leading to their inclusion as suspects.

Saidur Rahman Sabuj, Vice President of the Awami League and Chairman of Bookabuniya Union Parishad, said he immediately visited the police station upon learning of the case and protested to the OIC. He highlighted Sonia's condition—mentally disabled and 10 months pregnant with delivery expected on August 8—and requested her exclusion from the case. However, the OIC reportedly dismissed his request, asserting that there was evidence for the charges and that no one was charged without proof.
