Bagerhat, Aug 24 (V7N) - Before the upcoming national elections, there is a pressing call for state reforms. Speakers at a human chain rally organized by Citizens for Good Governance (Sujon) in Mithakhali Bazaar on August 24 emphasized the need for compiling a list of martyrs from the anti-discrimination student movement and providing support and compensation to their families. They also called for comprehensive medical treatment and rehabilitation for the injured. Additionally, they demanded that the United Nations swiftly establish an investigation committee to examine the killings, attacks, and abuses carried out by the current fascist government. This rally is part of a nationwide effort advocating for a democratic, secular, and humane state through necessary state reforms.

The rally was led by Mohammad Nazmul Haque of Sujon, with Mohammad Noor Alam Sheikh, Sujon’s General Secretary, as the chief guest. Other notable speakers included Sujon leaders Maharruf Billah, Mehedi Hasan Babu, and Tarikul Islam, as well as leaders from the anti-discrimination student movement such as Arafat Amin Durjoy from Rupsha College, Sabbir Hasan Dipto from Dhaka’s Stamford University, Rahatuzzaman Pabok from Khulna’s Sundarbans College, and Tanvir Hasan from Mongla Government College.

In his address, Mohammad Noor Alam Sheikh highlighted that the students’ anti-discrimination movement is not only calling for a change in government but also for fundamental state reforms and a transformation of political culture. Sujon continues to demand the establishment of a democratic, secular, and humane state through these reforms.
