Barguna, Sep 12 (V7N) - In Barguna, a violent confrontation between two groups of coordinators from the anti-discrimination student movement has resulted in four students being injured. The clash occurred late on Wednesday night (September 11) on Sadar Road near the Upazila Parishad in Barguna municipality.

The altercation reportedly began when supporters of Rezaul were attacked by students backing Mir Niloy. The injured students include Arif, Ashik, Mohibullah, and Abu Hanif, with Arif being admitted to Barguna General Hospital in critical condition.

The incident unfolded following a meeting with the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), which was held to organize the visit of central representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement. When it was announced that the visit would be canceled, tensions between the students escalated, leading to a physical fight between the two groups on Sadar Road.

After the clash, police intervened, and the injured were transported to Barguna General Hospital.

Rezaul, one of the coordinators, claimed that the confrontation started during a discussion about an agenda from August 4 and intensified when Niloy reacted angrily. He noted that although no formal police complaint was filed immediately, they plan to lodge a report soon.

In contrast, Mir Niloy refuted the accusations, explaining that his group had been engaged in addressing local issues and accusing Rezaul’s group of spreading false information and provoking conflict. Niloy stated that the altercation resulted from verbal provocations, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

Barguna Sadar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dewan Jaglul Hasan confirmed that although Rezaul indicated he would file a complaint, no formal complaint has been submitted yet. Legal measures will be taken once a complaint is received.
