Chakaria, Sep 24 (V7N) –An army officer was tragically killed by terrorists during a joint operation in the Maijpara area of Dulhazara Union, Chakaria Upazila, Cox's Bazar, in the early hours of Monday morning. The officer, identified as Lieutenant Tanzim Sarowar Nirjan, was fatally stabbed multiple times in the throat and eye while attempting to apprehend an armed suspect. He died before reaching the hospital.

The incident occurred around 2:30 am during a mission aimed at recovering illegal weapons in the region. According to the officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, Md. Manjur Quader Bhuiya, Lieutenant Sarowar and his team encountered a group of robbers in Maijpara village. In the course of arresting a suspect, Sarowar engaged in a struggle with one of the robbers and was severely injured by a knife attack.

Despite immediate efforts to rush the injured officer to a hospital in Cox's Bazar, he succumbed to his injuries en route.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the tragic news in a statement on Tuesday morning. As part of the joint operation, three members of the dacoit group, including Ziabul and Belal, were arrested. The officer’s body has been kept in the mortuary of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

The death of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarowar marks a sobering loss for the Bangladesh Army, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. Further investigations are underway to bring those responsible to justice.
