Dhaka, Oct 15 (V7N) — The results for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams were officially released today at 11 am. The overall pass rate this year stands at 77.78 percent, covering all 11 education boards, including 9 general, madrasa, and technical boards.

This year’s pass rate marks a slight drop from last year’s 78.64 percent. A total of 1,45,911 students achieved the coveted GPA-5. Among them, 80,933 are girls, while 64,978 are boys.

The 2024 HSC exams commenced on June 30, with 14,50,790 students registered across all education boards. However, disruptions caused by the student-led quota reform movement in government jobs resulted in several exam postponements. The political instability that followed escalated the situation, leading to the postponement of the remaining six subject exams and practical tests.

On August 5, the government of Sheikh Hasina was overthrown during a student uprising, further complicating the exam schedule. Initially rescheduled to resume from August 11, the remaining exams were ultimately canceled following protests by candidates. On August 20, some students stormed the secretariat, demanding a resolution, prompting the education department to abandon the exams altogether.

The final results were prepared using subject mapping based on students' previous performances in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams, addressing concerns raised by candidates about fairness.

This year’s results are now available online and at respective education institutions across the country.
