Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N) —The Election Commission has published the draft voter list for the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (Jucsu) Election 2025.
The announcement was made through a notice signed by Professor Moniruzzaman, chief election commissioner, and Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, member secretary, on Saturday.
The notice says that only those students currently enrolled in undergraduate (honours) programs for 6 years (4+2) or in postgraduate programs for 2 years (1+1) are included in the Jucsu voter list.
Additionally, the draft voter list includes regular students from the undergraduate (honours) batches of 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024, and from postgraduate batches of 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.
However, the names of students currently enrolled in M Phil, PhD, weekend, and evening programs, as well as irregular students from various batches, have not been included in the Jucsu voter list.
The notice further says that if there are any discrepancies or ambiguities in the voter list, written applications along with evidence should be submitted to the Election Commission by 2pm on January 14.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor and Jucsu President Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, was sent to the Proctor and Member Secretary of Jucsu Professor AKM Rashidul Alam, saying that the names of students accused in the investigation report regarding the incidents on July 14, 15 and 17 (attacks on students at Rabindranath Tagore Hall, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, the vice-chancellor’s residence, and the administration building, along with the firing of birdshot) will be excluded from the voter list until the investigation is completed.
Earlier, on December 31, the university administration formed a five-member Election Commission and outlined the roadmap for the Jucsu election.
According to the roadmap, the draft voter list was published on Friday, the final voter list will be published on January 15, the election code of conduct will be developed on January 25, and the election schedule will be declared on February 1.
