Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) — Authorities have announced that this year's Amar Ekushey Book Fair will be the largest in history, with an unprecedented number of participating organizations and an expanded venue. The month-long fair is set to begin on February 1, 2025, and will be inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, at 3 PM on Saturday.

At a press conference held at Bangla Academy on Thursday morning, officials detailed the preparations for the fair, which will be held under the theme "July Mass Uprising: Building a New Bangladesh." Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy, assured that robust measures have been taken to prevent disorder and ensure a smooth event.

Dr. Sarkar Amin, the Member Secretary of the fair, stated that this year’s event will see the highest number of publishers ever, with 708 publishing houses—78 more than last year. The fair, which started in 1972 by Muktadhara publisher Chittaranjan Saha, has grown into the longest-running book fair in the world and remains a key cultural event in Bangladesh.

To enhance visitor experience and security, several measures have been taken:

Four designated entrances and exits: Located at TSC, Doel Chattar, MRT Basing Plant, and Engineering Institution sections.

Enhanced security: Police, RAB, Ansar, and intelligence agencies will oversee security, with over 300 CCTV cameras installed.

Polythene-free and smoke-free fair: Authorities have implemented strict environmental regulations.

Revised layout due to metro rail station: The main exit has been moved closer to the Temple Gate for better traffic management.

Special food stalls: Arranged along the boundary of the Engineering Institution for better organization.

Dr. Amin emphasized that the fair is dedicated to the memory of language martyrs, freedom fighters, and participants of democratic movements, including the July Uprising.

With excitement building up, the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan are expected to become a hub of literary and cultural activities throughout February, attracting thousands of visitors daily.
