Dhaka, Jan 30 (V7N) — The newly proposed university for the seven government colleges in Dhaka may be named 'July 36 University', if students support the name. This suggestion came during a meeting between University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor S.M.A. Faiz, three committee members, and Education Advisor Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud on Thursday.

The seven government colleges—Dhaka College, Eden Women's College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College—are currently in the process of being separated from Dhaka University.

The authorities announced on Monday that from the 2024-25 academic year, these institutions will no longer admit students under Dhaka University. In response, the interim government has initiated plans to convert these colleges into a separate university, with the UGC overseeing the process.

Further discussions and decisions regarding the university’s establishment and final naming are expected in the coming weeks.
