Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Abdul Awal addressing a meeting with journalists. The meeting took place in the Vice-Chancellor's office at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) on Friday morning.
Pabna, Feb 08, (V7N) — The Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), Professor Dr. SM Abdul Awal, criticized the previous government for establishing universities without ensuring quality education. He mentioned that many universities failed to hire qualified teachers, which led to a decline in the education system and the failure of an entire generation.
He made these comments during a meeting with local journalists on Friday (February 7) at the university's Vice-Chancellor's office.
Dr. Awal stated that since taking charge, he has observed numerous irregularities, corruption, and chaos at the university. He pointed out the politicization in hiring teachers and staff, with departments being opened without enough faculty. He also mentioned the lack of proper conduct codes for teachers, staff, and students, and how the university had been controlled by an unscrupulous group, with students being mistreated.
To address these issues and transform the university into a model institution, Dr. Awal outlined several plans, including the establishment of a research cell, improvement of library and medical facilities for students, enhancement of sports and extracurricular activities, and increased availability of residential halls. He emphasized the importance of monitoring both academic and administrative activities to improve the educational environment.
Dr. Awal also noted plans to introduce modern, relevant academic departments and provide training for teachers and staff to create a skilled workforce. He announced efforts to ensure accreditation for departments lacking it and to restart academic scholarships for students. Moreover, new clubs will be formed to allow students to freely engage in cultural activities.
He reiterated the goal of transforming PUST into a respected institution that is not only focused on infrastructure but also aims to shape students into capable graduates and good citizens.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his hope that the university will grow with the support of local media and highlighted ongoing efforts to acquire land for expanding the campus. He also emphasized the importance of research on agriculture and livestock, given the region's heritage.
The meeting was attended by several journalists, including Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, President of the Pabna Press Club, and Zahurul Islam, the Secretary, along with several other media personnel and university staff members.
Dr. Awal ended the meeting by thanking the press for their support and reiterating his commitment to turning Pabna University into a key asset for the region's development.
