Dhaka, Feb 20, (V7N) – The administration of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) has decided to temporarily suspend 12 teachers associated with the pro-Awami League. The suspensions come following accusations that these teachers took a stance against students participating in an anti-discrimination movement and played a role in suppressing the protests.

The decision was made during a Syndicate meeting held on Wednesday. An investigation committee’s report revealed that the accused teachers used their political affiliation to collaborate with the administration in curbing the student-led movement. According to the report, the teachers were involved in intimidating students to discourage their participation in the protests.

The 12 teachers who have been temporarily suspended are:

Professor Md. Harun-ur-Rashid, Deb Kumar Bhattacharya, Oli Ahad Setu, Shormin Chowdhury, Md. Farhad Hossain, Ayesha Akter, Ruhul Amin, Chaiti De Puja, Shabera Yasmin, Omar Ali Mallik, Shah Zahir Raihan, and Ziaur Rahman Bhuiyan.
In addition to the suspensions, the university has referred the matter to the Ministry of Information for further decisions regarding the actions of the then Vice-Chancellor Professor Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Pal, and Treasurer Professor Nazrul Islam.

The suspensions are seen as part of the university’s response to the controversy surrounding the student protests, which focused on addressing various issues related to discrimination. The university administration is under scrutiny for its handling of the situation, as the investigation suggests that the actions of the suspended teachers may have contributed to an atmosphere of fear and suppression on campus.
