Amidst the ongoing heatwave across the country, the High Court has issued an order mandating the closure of all primary and secondary schools, as well as madrasas, until next Thursday.

Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury responded to the court's directive, stating that they would appeal the decision. Addressing reporters after a program at the Science Complex in Agargaon, the capital, on Monday (April 29), the minister emphasized that there is no lack of coordination between the concerned ministries regarding school closures.

Expressing concern, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the emerging trend of resorting to court directives for decisions regarding educational institutions. He questioned the necessity of relying on the judiciary for such matters, stressing the need for a balanced approach.

The Education Minister pointed out that there is no justification for closing schools in districts where temperatures remain relatively low. He defended the decision to keep primary schools open, stating that it was a coordinated effort between ministries and that there was no perceived risk during the period when primary classes concluded.

Regarding the High Court directive, Minister Chowdhury mentioned that the ministry had not yet received a copy. He assured that upon receipt, the directive would be thoroughly reviewed, and a decision on the next course of action would be made accordingly.
