A five-person high-level expert committee was established by the Education Ministry on Wednesday to examine a story named "Sharifa" in the seventh-grade social science and history textbook.

In this regard, the ministry released a press release signed by its information and public relations officer, Muhammad Abul Khair.

The group will assist the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) by carefully examining the narrative, per the press release.

The Islamic Foundation's governor, Mufti Maulana Kafil Uddin Sarker, Prof. Moshiuzzaman, a member of the NCTB, Abdul Halim, the director of Dhaka University's Institute of Education and Research (IER), and Prof. Mohammad Abdur Rashid, the principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasa, are the other members of the committee.

The situation occurred after a private university professor expressed disapproval of the textbook's treatment of transgender issues and tore pages out of it, which went viral on social media.
