Pabna, July 8 ( V7N)- Students at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) organized a torch procession demanding quota reform.
The procession began at 7:30 PM on Monday (July 8) from the university's Shaheed Minar. It then circled the campus before concluding at the main gate.
After the procession, students staged a sit-in in front of the main gate. During this time, they chanted various anti-quota slogans such as "No place for discrimination in Bangabandhu's Bengal," "Spread the word across Bengal, bury the quota system," "Merit or quota? Quota, quota," and "Lobbying or the streets? The streets, the streets."
The students stated, "The irrational and discriminatory quota system in all government job grades must be abolished. A law should be passed in parliament to reduce the quota to a minimum level for the backward communities mentioned in the constitution."
They further said, "This movement is about securing our rights. We will not back down from our movement until our demands are met."
They announced a march and protest rally for the following day, Tuesday, at 11 AM, before leaving the campus around 8 PM.
