Sirajganj, July 16 (V7N)- A clash erupted between police and quota reform protesters in Sirajganj, where incidents of brickbatting and tear gas shelling left 20 injured, including five police personnel.
 
On Tuesday (July 16), the confrontation took place in the Railway Gate area of Sirajganj city. Police detained eight individuals during the clash.
 
Among the injured, Siyam (19) and Jisan (20) were admitted to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj, renowned for its 250-bed facility. Others injured include Nabil, Saikat Nayan, and Imon.
 
Sirajganj Additional Police Superintendent Rezwanul Islam stated that when protesters assembled near the Railway Gate area, outsiders within their ranks targeted police with brickbats and tear gas shells. Police responded by dispersing the crowd and attempting to restore order. The situation remains tense, with intermittent clashes ongoing.
 
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sirajul Islam of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station confirmed that protesters initiated the attack on police. Later, police arrested eight individuals from the scene.
 
Sirajganj Additional Police Superintendent Rezwanul Islam mentioned that when protesters gathered near the Railway Gate area, they targeted police with brickbats and tear gas shells. At that time, the police tried to disperse them by firing rubber bullets and tear gas shells for self-defense. The situation is currently under control, police said
