Dhaka,17 July- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered the suspension of educational programs at all public and private universities across the country. This directive, issued on Tuesday night, follows the Ministry of Education's decision to close all secondary, higher secondary, and polytechnic institutions indefinitely for student safety. Additionally, all colleges and institutions affiliated with the National University will also remain closed, and Thursday's HSC and equivalent exams have been postponed.

The UGC notification states that, in alignment with the Ministry of Education's decision, all universities, including medical, textile, engineering, and other colleges, will remain closed until further notice. Students have been instructed to vacate residence halls and seek safe accommodations.

This decision comes in the wake of the ongoing anti-quota movement, which saw widespread protests in various educational institutions and highways on Tuesday. Clashes occurred between protesters, police, and government supporters. Consequently, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in Dhaka, Chittagong, Bogra, and Rajshahi to maintain law and order.

Protesters began blocking roads at multiple locations in the capital from 11 am, causing severe traffic disruptions. By the afternoon, clashes between Chhatra League, police, and protesters had erupted in Dhaka's Science Lab, Chankharpool, and other locations outside the capital, further intensifying the situation.
