Khulna, July 31 — The anti-discrimination student movement at Khulna University has been called off, with demands made for an end to police harassment of innocent students and the trial of those responsible for the murder of a former student. The decision was made following a meeting between student leaders and local officials at Khulna Circuit House, which concluded late Tuesday night.

The meeting, which started at 9:30 PM and ended around 12:30 AM, was attended by Khulna City Mayor, a Member of Parliament, the Deputy Police Commissioner, eleven student leaders, and three parents.lp

Zahurul Tanveer, a student from Khulna University, stated, "Khulna University has no designated coordinator for this movement; the students acted spontaneously, organized by batch. We engaged in discussions through our teachers, and various assurances were given by members of parliament and administration officials. We have been assured that investigations will be conducted and justice will be served for all deaths, including those of Khulna University students. Our protest has always been peaceful, and we are calling off the program to prevent any party from inciting violence in the name of the movement."

Rafsan Jani, representing Azam Khan Commerce College, also announced the withdrawal of their agitation program. "The parliamentarian thanked us for conducting this movement peacefully. We are now ending our protest activities," he said.

SM Kamal, the Member of Parliament for Khulna-3 Constituency, assured that there would be no cases filed against the students in Khulna. "Even if there are any existing cases, they will be withdrawn. The concerned administration will also make a decision soon regarding the demand to reopen educational institutions," he added.

The withdrawal of the movement marks a step towards resolving the unrest and addressing the grievances of students while ensuring that their demands for justice and safety are met.
