Dhaka, August 26 - Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU). The announcement was made today, Monday (August 26), by the Chancellor of the University and President of Bangladesh, Dr. Shahabuddin. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan will serve as the 30th Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious institution.

Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan is a distinguished professor in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka and has previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). He has made significant contributions to academic and development management in Bangladesh, Thailand, and the UK. His impressive academic background includes higher education and research at renowned institutions such as the University of Oxford, the University of Wales Swansea, and the Asian Institute of Technology.

The appointment comes following the resignation of the previous Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maqsood Kamal, who stepped down on August 10 after the Awami League government fell on August 5 amid a student movement. Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan will now assume the leadership role, bringing his extensive experience in education and administration to the university. 

Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan's appointment marks a new chapter for Dhaka University, as the institution continues its mission to advance higher education and research in Bangladesh.
