The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 18, following an official circular issued by Rokhsana Akhtar, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Branch of the Ministry of Education.
The appointment, approved by the President and Chancellor of MBSTU, was made under the provisions of the Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Act, 2001. This decision marks a significant step in the university's leadership, with Professor Akhand bringing his extensive academic experience to the role.
As per the appointment terms, Professor Akhand's tenure as Vice Chancellor will last for four years. During this period, he will receive a salary and benefits equivalent to his current position at Dhaka University. This ensures that his compensation aligns with his previous academic status.
In his new role, Professor Akhand is required to reside on the MBSTU campus, where he will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the university. This condition emphasizes the importance of his on-campus presence to oversee university operations effectively.
