Seoul, Sep 30 (V7N) – Suga, a prominent member of the global K-pop sensation BTS, has been fined 15 million won (approximately $11,500 or €8,600) for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred last August near his residence in Seoul.

According to BBC News, Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, was found by the police attempting to get back up after falling off his scooter. Upon realising that he was intoxicated, officers tested his blood alcohol level, which was recorded at 0.227%, far exceeding South Korea's legal limit of 0.08%.

A Seoul district court handed down the fine last Friday and also revoked Suga's driving license.

In response, Suga expressed remorse for his actions, stating, “Although no one was hurt and no property was damaged, I take full responsibility for this.” He admitted that he initially sat on the scooter believing he wouldn't travel far but could not recall the details of the incident.

The 31-year-old artist has faced significant public criticism since the incident, with some fans calling for his departure from BTS.

Suga, currently serving in South Korea's mandatory military service, had taken a temporary break from BTS to join the military. However, due to being deemed physically unfit for regular duties, he is now serving as a social service agent.

BTS, one of the most recognised K-pop bands globally, first rose to prominence in 2014 with their debut Korean studio album Dark & Wild. Since then, they have sold millions of records worldwide, becoming international music icons by 2017. Despite this setback, Suga's fans continue to express support for his music and future endeavours.
