New York, Oct 25, (V7N) - Rock legend Stevie Nicks recently reflected on a decade-old conversation with pop star Katy Perry, in which she shared invaluable insights about navigating the music industry as a woman. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Nicks recounted Perry's worries about the intense online criticism faced by female artists.
Nicks told Perry, “Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.” When Perry probed about her rivals, Nicks delivered a powerful message: “I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet, and you won’t have rivals either.”
This perspective aligns with Nicks' previous comments in The New Yorker, where she encouraged Perry to concentrate on her unique artistry instead of succumbing to negative comparisons. “You are Katy Perry, you do what you do and you’re great at it,” Nicks affirmed.
The conversation also touched on Perry's well-documented feud with Taylor Swift, which was famously highlighted in Swift’s 2014 track "Bad Blood." Fortunately, their rivalry was resolved amicably in 2018, marked by Perry sending an olive branch during Swift’s Reputation World Tour. The two have since collaborated and supported one another, with Perry even attending Swift's Eras Tour concert earlier this year.
In her recent acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs, Perry echoed Nicks' wisdom, urging fellow artists to prioritize mental health and authenticity. “Turn off social media. Safeguard your mental health. Pause. Touch grass. And do what you were born to do,” she advised.
Nicks also expressed her admiration for Swift, wishing her happiness and a future filled with love, saying, “I hope she has babies,” in reference to Swift's relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Through their shared experiences and mutual support, Nicks, Perry, and Swift exemplify the strength of female camaraderie in the music industry, proving that unity often triumphs over rivalry.
