Los Angeles, Dec 19, (V7N) - Jane Seymour, the 73-year-old actress known for her role in Live and Let Die, recently spoke out about the devastating wildfires that have been ravaging California’s Malibu region. During an interview at the American Ballet Theatre Annual Benefit in Los Angeles, Seymour shared her experience as the Franklin Fire, which has heavily impacted the area, came dangerously close to her home.
The fire, which has already destroyed 20 structures and damaged another 28, continues to be a major concern for the local community. As of the latest reports, the fire is 89% contained, having scorched 4,037 acres in the Malibu area, located around 30 miles west of Los Angeles. While the damage is extensive, Seymour expressed deep gratitude for the safety of her home and her family, acknowledging that the proximity of the fire left her with a sense of post-traumatic numbness. "It’s interesting, you kind of have a sort of post-traumatic numbness. It’s like, ‘Did that really happen?’ And it did," she said, reflecting on the trauma of the event.
Despite the destruction in the region, Seymour considered herself fortunate. "Driving around Malibu and looking at all the charred remains is not fun, but really considering what could have happened, we were all very fortunate," she explained. The actress was among a number of celebrities who were forced to evacuate during the crisis, including Dick Van Dyke, Cher, and Barbra Streisand.
On December 11, Seymour took to social media to express her relief and gratitude, explaining how the Franklin Fire came "extremely close" to her Malibu home. "We are deeply grateful for the amazing firefighters and the incredible band of Malibu volunteer firefighters who are risking everything to protect our homes and our community," she wrote in an Instagram post. She also acknowledged the strength and resilience of the community during the challenging time, calling on people to continue supporting one another.
Other notable figures, such as Dick Van Dyke, also shared their experiences. Van Dyke and his wife Arlene had to evacuate their home, although their cat Bobo managed to escape. Van Dyke posted on Facebook, expressing concern for their community and praying for the safety of their home and neighbors. Later, he shared an update that both their home had remained unharmed and that Bobo had returned safely.
Actor Mark Hamill, known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars series, also addressed the situation on social media. Despite being in the fire’s path, Hamill chose not to evacuate his home, informing his followers that he was on lockdown due to the ongoing fires. He humorously mentioned that the situation was a perfect fit for his "elderly-recluse lifestyle," urging his fans to stay safe.
The fires in Malibu are a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by wildfires in California, which continue to threaten both local communities and the region’s natural resources. The bravery of firefighters and volunteers, as well as the resilience of the affected communities, has been highlighted as a critical force in facing the destruction.
